PM Szydło explained that the PLN 500 (EUR 117, USD 127) is a net figure and will not be subject to tax.

The “Family 500 plus” is set to be adopted by the government on 2 February, following a wide range of public consultations.

Szydło added that the programme is aimed at all parents, including single parents, and will be paid to families with two or more children.

There will be no upper income bracket.

“This programme, which is aimed at Polish families, has two goals,” Szydło told internet users during a Q&A session on a social-networking site over the weekend.

She explained that on the one hand, the programme will provide support for lower-income families. On the other hand, it is aimed at tackling Poland's demographic problems.

“We are committed to increasing the number of children born in Poland,” Szydło said. (rg/pk)
