Polish police have launched a nationwide action to help the homeless as a cold snap gripped the country over the weekend.

The temperature dropped to as low as -20 degrees Celsius on Saturday night in the Suwałki region of north east Poland, while in Warsaw, it was -16 degrees Celsius at 8:00 am on Sunday morning.
As many as nine people died of hypothermia on Saturday across Poland, compared with three on Friday.
Police have appealed to citizens to notify them or the fire brigade if they know of places where people are sleeping rough. (nh)
