Komorowski, a centre-right, pro-EU politician, lost Poland’s presidential election to conservative challenger Andrzej Duda last May. Shortly afterwards, he said he would set up an institute.

The new centre would invite a prominent European politician to give a speech every year, an event that would be accompanied by seminars, lectures and discussions, Komorowski said Friday in Warsaw.

The institute could also organize a conference of European think-tanks, he added.

Komorowski said that action is needed "to strengthen the belief that we [Poles] have an important role to play as a country that could have an impact on progressing or halting the process of deepening European integration." (pk)
