The most cases, 93, have been noted in the south-eastern Podkarpacie region, where two people have died, the TVN private broadcaster reported. It added that in the southern Malopolska region, 28 have been infected and two have died.

Twenty cases have been registered in the southern Silesia region, where two patients - who were being treated for cancer - have died as a result of complications, the IAR news agency reported.

Meanwhile, 13 cases of swine flu have been noted in the northern Pomerania region, according to IAR.

Pomerania sanitary inspector Tomasz Augustyniak said that not every case of AH1N1 needs to be treated in hospital, adding that a doctor should decide what the best course of action is in individual cases.

Health authorities say that washing your hands lowers the risk of infection. Some experts also recommend seasonal flu shots. (pk)
