Former minister charged with tax evasion

Andrzej B., a sports minister in Poland's former Civic Platform government, is facing six charges, including one of tax evasion, according to the district prosecutor in Warsaw.

Five of the charges concerned declarations of assets by an MP between April 2011 and April 2013, which did not include a declaration of owning a car worth more than PLN 10,000 (EUR 2,300) and having bank deposits of between PLN 16,000-85,000 (EUR 3,700-19,600), the prosecutor's office said on Tuesday.
Such offences are punishable with up to three years in prison.
Andrzej B. (name withheld under Polish privacy laws) has not commented on the matter.
The Polish Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) on Monday searched the house of the former sports minister.
Andrzej B. resigned from his position within the sports ministry during a reshuffle by then prime minister Ewa Kopacz in 2015. (rg/pk)
