The toddlers had been left in churches: one on Tuesday in Sosnowiec, the other on Wednesday in Katowice.

According to police, the woman was tracked down thanks to an anonymous telephone tip-off.

The 25-year-old was found at her grandmother's house in Sosnowiec.

The young mother has apparently told police that she is unemployed and incapable of providing for her children.

She said that she left the children out of desperation, hoping that they would be adopted by another family.

“Talks with the woman are ongoing,” commented police spokesperson Aleksandra Nawara.

The 25-year-old could face three years in prison for abandoning the children. (nh/pk)
