Gilowska held office during governments led by Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Jarosław Kaczyński of the Law and Justice (PiS) party.
She entered the Cabinet in 2006, a move that surprised observers since she had previously been an influential politician in the Civic Platform (PO) party, PiS’s political rival.
Gilowska was a member of Poland’s rate-setting Monetary Policy Council from 2010 to 2013. She was reportedly suffering from a serious illness. (pk)
