A new bill giving the Polish authorities more powers in anti-terrorist investigations could be ready for discussion by the government next week, Interior Minister Mariusz Błaszczak has said.

The bill would give law-enforcing authorities, including the Internal Security Agency (ABW) greater access to criminal databases, and the possibility of detaining terrorist suspects for up to 14 days.
“The draft bill is ready. I hope that as early as this week it can be debated by the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers and next week, perhaps on Tuesday, it will be discussed by the Council of Ministers,” Błaszczak said. (rg/pk)
