Anticorruption officers are checking whether there were irregularities in so-called reprivatisation decisions made from 2010 to 2016 regarding the return of property in Warsaw acquired by the authorities under the so-called Bierut Decree.

That decree, passed in October 1945 and named after Polish communist leader Bolesław Bierut, allowed the confiscation of plots of private land in the capital, ostensibly so that Warsaw could be rebuilt after the devastation it suffered in World War II.

The Central Anticorruption Bureau is also probing asset declarations by directors and deputy directors of City Hall departments. (pk)
