The march was organised by the National Radical Camp (ONR), a formation that was banned in the mid-1930s on account of its extremism, but reactivated in 1993.

The image of Wrocław mayor Rafał Dutkiewicz was apparently set on fire by Roman Zieliński, author of a book entitled 'How I fell in love with Adolf Hitler,' (Jak pokochałem Adolfa Hitlera).

Zieliński is a figurehead of a faction of fans of local football side Śląsk Wrocław.

Meanwhile, a Polish prosecutor's office is probing whether ONR promoted fascism during anniversary events last month in Białystok, north-eastern Poland. (nh)
