During a presentation of a report on the previous government’s eight years in power on Wednesday, Law and Justice (PiS) MP and special services coordinator Mariusz Kamiński said that between 2007 and 2015, when the Civic Platform (PO) was in government, over 40 journalists from both sides of the political spectrum were subject to surveillance.

During a presentation in the Polish parliament on Wednesday, Kamiński asked the opposition what they would say if the current government, which won the October 2015 general election, were to do the same.

He said that today, “no one will be put under surveillance because of political views”, as such actions would infringe “freedom of speech and democracy”.

The list of journalists range from people working for right-wing to liberal publications and broadcasters.
