The government on Wednesday presented a swingeing verbal report to parliament that slammed the Civic Platform (PO)-PSL coalition which was in power 2007-2015.

Addressing MPs, Prime Minister Beata Szydło accused the previous government of wasting PLN 340 billion of taxpayers’ money. Szydło’s conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party swept to power in October in a landslide election victory.

Opposition parties say it is harder for them to rebut verbal accusations than facts and figures on paper.

Piotr Zgorzelski of the PSL said: “Government officials must take responsibility for their words."

He added: "We look forward to the presentation of these documents without delay."

Ryszard Petru, leader of the opposition Nowoczesna party, also demanded a written or electronic version of the government report. (pk)
