Almost 2 million more Poles than last year will spend their summer holidays in Poland, largely due to the fear of terrorism abroad, according to the Rzeczpospolita daily.

Poles will spend on average 12 percent more than last year on their holidays, but over 75 percent of them will stay in their own country, according to an Ipsos poll quoted by Rzeczpospolita.

The paper said the number of Poles heading to Egypt is set to fall by 74 percent and the number picking Turkey for their holidays by 65 percent compared to last year.

“Tunisia, which was the fifth most popular holiday destination for Poles, now is not even in the top 20,” Rzeczpospolita said.

The paper reported these results are largely connected to the fear of terrorism, but could also be caused by a weakening of the Polish zloty.
