The results of the May exams were presented on Tuesday at a press conference in Warsaw by Marcin Smolik, the director of Poland’s Central Examination Commission.

Pupils were on tenterhooks as they waited to receive their individual results later in the day.

Poland’s matura school leaving exams are a rite of passage and a test that determines teenagers’ future to a large degree.

Smolik indicated that the percentage of pupils who failed their exams in Polish, mathematics and a foreign language is similar to the figure in previous years. (pk)
