Schools in Poland will start on 1 September.

Education Minister Anna Zalewska told Polish Radio that the number of students starting school in 2016 is much lower than in recent years.

In December 2015, Parliament voted to restore the age at which compulsory schooling begins to seven, reversing a reform from the previous government which saw all six-year-olds go to school for the first time earlier that year.

Minister Zalewska announced that the school year will end on 23 June.

Meanwhile, the number of first class students in Polish schools in Lithuania who start school on 1 September will exceed 1,100 students, about thirty more students in comparison with the previous year. (rg)
