The rules will also make it easier for inspectors to clamp down on illegal employment.

"The changes guarantee legal employment, and consequently security and good conditions for workers," said Family, Labour and Social Policy Minister Elżbieta Rafalska.

From 1 September, employees will need to have a written job contract, or a document confirming the terms of employment, before they start work.

Up to now, employers have had until the end of the first day to give a new worker a contract.

Employers often claim during checks by labour inspectors that workers employed illegally and without the required documents are on their first day in the job.
