Police were notified by the owner of an apartment rented by the 28-year-old man.
He is believed to have gone running close to the Giewont peak or the Czerwone Wierchy area on the Polish-Slovak border.
Conditions in the Tatras are very difficult. A level 2 -- moderate -- avalanche alert is in force. All trails are covered with a fresh layer of snow.
There is half a meter of snow on the Kasprowy Wierch peak and the temperature at the top is well below freezing.
