The agency is to replace an anti-doping commission supervised and financed by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

“It will be a strong entity, with an aim to step up the fight against doping,” Bańka said.

The new organization will be eligible for subsidies from UNESCO, the European Union and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The announcement comes two months after Polish weightlifters Adrian and Tomasz Zieliński were sent home from the Rio Olympics after returning positive drug tests, though both men denied doping. (vz/pk)
