Szydło was not hurt in any way, Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Błaszczak told private broadcaster TVN24.

"Two people required medical attention. One of them was an officer from the Government Protection Bureau (BOR), the second is a person working in the Prime Minister’s Office," said Polish government spokesman Rafał Bochenek.

The collision occurred as the motorcade was heading from the airport in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The vehicle carrying Szydło was not involved in the accident, according to Polish Radio. The PM's visit to Israel was going ahead as planned, Bochenek added.

BOR spokeswoman Natalia Markiewicz said: "The car that caused the incident was driven by a driver of the Israeli security forces."

According to some media outlets, the most probable reason for the crash was a burst tyre in a car used by security forces.

In total, five cars were involved in the collision – three vans with delegation members, an ambulance and a police car.

Szydło and Polish government officials on Monday started a two-day visit to Israel to discuss business ties and hold intergovernmental consultations. (mol/pk)
