Duda and Gauck visited the alliance’s Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin to discuss its mission, tasks and status.

Duda praised the unit, saying it was constantly becoming better equipped to perform tasks related to NATO decisions made at the alliance’s summits in Newport, Wales, and in Warsaw.

Gauck said the international unit plays an important role at a time when politicians and the public alike have concerns about security in Europe.

The Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin is raising its level of readiness and will be expected to be ready for action within 48 hours to respond to any threats in Poland as well as the three Baltic states, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

At the moment, about 400 soldiers from 25 countries are stationed in Szczecin. (str/pk)
