The money will be used to modernize railway between the cities of Olsztyn, Białystok, Lublin and Rzeszów, as well as to support environmentally-friendly public transport in the city of Olsztyn.

“The investments which were subsidized show a change of attitude towards using EU funds in Poland,” said Mateusz Morawiecki, deputy Prime Minister, and the Minister of Finance and Development.

“We believe that investing in infrastructure should boost the development of the region. It should generate GDP and not expenses like stadiums and swimming pools do.”

Poland has secured a further EUR 440 million in European Union funds to invest in eastern Poland in the future.
