The local man died after he was stabbed multiple times outside a kebab restaurant on New Year's Eve.

Local police said that the owners of the bar, of North African origin, were detained in relation to the killing.

Media reports quoted unofficial sources as saying that the man was involved in a fight with the owners after he set off a firework inside the restaurant.

On Sunday, hundreds of locals gathered in front of the restaurant to pay their respect to the dead man and light candles.

However, some individuals broke the glass on the front of the restaurant and ignited fireworks inside the property.

The mob threw bottles and rocks at riot police stationed at the scene, who in turn adopted “adequate measures” and deployed pepper gas on the crowd.

An investigation is ongoing. (rg)
