An official from the parliament’s chancellery said that the office is waiting for official permission to publish the recordings. “We hope that this will happen without undue delay,” he said.

The recordings are meant to shed light on the proceedings within the “Hall of columns” where a key vote on the 2017 budget was held with the participation of MPs from the governing Law and Justice (PiS) party as well as a handful of opposition deputies.

Opposition parties Civic Platform (PO) and Nowoczesna have questioned whether a quorum was met, and have called the vote “illegal”.

PiS has denied any wrongdoing, and said the vote was in line with regulations.

Opposition MPs have been staging a sit-in protest since 16 December when they stormed the rostrum after a deputy was excluded from a debate about the budget.

They said that they will remain in parliament until the vote is repeated. High ranking PiS officials have said there is no need to repeat the vote.

If the CCTV recordings are made public they could offer evidence about who took part in the vote, and exactly how many people took part. (rg)
