The 52-year-old Italian man, identified only as Luigi B., was wanted on a European Arrest Warrant on suspicion that he was part of an organized crime group.

The man is accused of drug- and weapons-related crimes.

After avoiding Italian police in 2013, when law enforcers conducted an operation in which 80 people were detained, the suspect went into hiding.

Polish officers received information from their Italian counterparts that the man may be in Poland.

After uncovering that the man was a regular patron of a Kraków pizza restaurant, Polish police organized a stake-out with their Italian counterparts and seized the suspect.

He now awaits extradition to Italy, Polish police said. (vb/pk)
