Wednesday is the last day that pre-paid SIM cards used in Poland can be registered under new rules designed to combat terrorism. The following day, unregistered cards will be turned off.

But the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily reported that people who want to anonymously use mobile phones can easily bypass the rules without breaking the law.

The new rules came into force under an anti-terrorism law adopted by parliament last year.

The aim is to make it more difficult for criminals, including anyone involved in terrorist activities, to remain anonymous.

However, Polish media reported that criminals would still be able to buy SIM cards.

One method is to buy a pre-paid card from a country that does not require registration.

Meanwhile, when sales of unregistered cards ended in Poland in July 2016, many saw an opportunity for making money by registering cards in their name and selling them on to others on the internet, according to media reports.
