According to the ministry, three companies, registered in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany, were involved in a “tax carousel”.

A series of invoices showed products being sold among the companies, so the final recipient of the goods was the same firm which issued the first invoice.

The goods included coffee, chocolate, batteries and shavers, and were only moved between two warehouses, located in Poland and the Czech Republic.

The companies took advantage of different VAT rates owed in the countries, and applied for refunds of tax that had not been paid. (vb/pk)
