Poland’s governing Law and Justice (PiS) party will likely rule for at least 12 years, until 2027, deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said.

Morawiecki is the architect of an ambitious programme to inject around PLN 2 trillion into the Polish economy.

Asked by the Wirtualna Polska website whether a four-year mandate to govern is enough to implement the programme in the long-term, Morawiecki said that he is not worried.

“I'm not worried about those four years because I am sure that we will rule for at least 12 years – until 2027,” he said in an interview published on Sunday.

“Today, the government led by Prime Minister [Beata] Szydło, is creating a new quality [of life], respecting a significant part of society,” Morawiecki added.

PiS came to power in late 2015 on a ticket that prominently featured social programmes, including new welfare payouts for families with children, and cheap housing.
