Tusk broke EU rules: PiS leader

The EU has chosen a politician who has “broken all rules” of the Union, said Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of Poland's governing party, after Donald Tusk was chosen to head the European Council.

“It's a very bad situation that a politician was elected who broke all the rules that previously existed in the European Union, above all, the rule of neutrality,” Law and Justice's Kaczyński said late on Thursday in Warsaw.
Only hours earlier, Tusk was supported by 27 out of 28 countries to head the European Council for a second term. Poland was the only country which did not back Tusk.
Government officials had criticised Tusk of overstepping his mandate and interfering in domestic Polish politics.
“He was not neutral,” Kaczyński said, referring to Tusk's first term at the head of the Council, “and you can say that he intervened in Polish affairs ... very strongly and in delicate situations, in moments of great tension,” he added.
In a tweet following the vote on Thursday, Tusk wrote: “Grateful for trust & positive assessment by [the European Council]. I will do my best to make the EU better.”
