Sponsored by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the United Nations, the World Happiness Report is compiled on the basis of data relating to life expectancy, Gross Domestic Product per capita, social support, generosity, freedom to make life choices and perceptions of corruption.

The remaining countries in the top ten are Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden.

Poland’s 46th position is a tangible improvement over the 2016 report, in which this country was in 57th place.

Poland is ahead of countries such as Italy (48th place), Japan (51st) and Portugal (89th).

The World Happiness Report, the fifth one to come out since 2012, is published on the International Day of Happiness, which is marked on 20 March. (mk/rg)
