The organisation appealed to Polish politicians to adopt a law that will effectively limit the waste of food and make it available to people in need.

MEPs appealed this week to member countries to reduce food waste by 30 percent by 2025, and by 50 percent by 2030.

Europeans throw away a total of 88 million tonnes of food a year, or about 173 kilogrammes per person. According to calculations by the European Commission, this leads to costs of around EUR 143 billion.

Greenpeace Polska said that the Easter holidays mark a period which “apart from religious reflection and reunions of family and friends also sees a waste of a particularly large quantity of food.”
