A landslip left a gaping hole 100 metres long and six metres wide in the southwestern Polish city of Wrocław on Thursday, firefighters said.

No-one was injured but a small bus and a passenger car fell into the hole, next to the Odra river.

The fire brigade is checking surrounding buildings to see if they are at risk.

Mariusz Piasecki, a spokesman for the fire brigade in Wrocław, said: "Barges moored to the concrete quay damaged its structure and that probably caused the landslip.

"Firefighters are securing [the site] and checking it if endangers the surrounding buildings," he added.
