Boys suffer from weight problems more often than girls, according to the World Health Organization European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative survey.

However, only 14 percent of parents consider their children to be overweight, Poland’s IAR news agency reported.

The study confirms a slow but steady rise in obesity and weight problems in children, the IAR agency added.

Study coordinator Professor Anna Fijałkowska said that the results for Poland are midway between those for countries in southern Europe, where up to 40 percent of children are overweight, and countries in northern Europe, where the figure is 20 percent.
