Poles scathing about political parties: survey

Nine in ten Poles believe that their country's political parties cause quarrels and havoc, according to a new survey.

And 87 percent believe that parties are cliques whose only goal is to gain power, according to the study by pollster CBOS.

Eight in ten said political parties comprise people whose main motivation is personal ambition.

And 66 percent said that the goals of most parties are unclear.

But 54 percent said that parties propose solutions to major problems in Poland.

CBOS noted that Poles have grown more critical of political parties compared with the results of surveys six and 16 years ago, although the increase has been slight.

The study asked a representative, random sample of 1,034 adults for their opinions and was carried out between May 5 and May 14.
