This month, Poland is set to receive the first of five VIP planes purchased in late 2016 from the US's Gulfstream, Antoni Macierewicz, Poland’s Defence Minister has said.

The first medium-sized VIP plane is planned to land in Warsaw on 21 June.

“In June, the first of the medium-sized planes will land in Poland, and larger planes will follow,” Macierewicz said.

He added that he hoped the deal will end the “dramatically long period” of time that Poland, “as the only European country” has no “safe means of carrying the most important people in the country” across international borders.

The second plane is scheduled to land in July, and first VIP flights should be possible in early Autumn, the IAR news agency said.

The planes will be capable of flying over 5,000 kilometres with 14 passengers and baggage on board, which means the planes will be able to fly directly between Warsaw and New York’s JFK airport, IAR said. (tf/rg)
