The director of the park, who reported the case to local police, has said that an ornithologist who wanted to put a ring on the bird’s leg has found the nest empty.
Two weeks earlier, he had found a young specimen of the bird in perfect condition, much too young to be able to fly on its own.
The golden eagle is a bird of prey and it is feared the bird may be offered for sale to poachers, possibly abroad.
The golden eagle is under strict protection. Its population in Poland numbers about 30 pairs, nesting mostly in the south-eastern mountainous regions.
