The "chemist" and two other suspects were held after police closed down an illegal laboratory near Warsaw.
Preliminary tests have shown that the amphetamine they allegedly produced was of a high degree of purity, Poland’s IAR news agency reported.
It added that the 79-year-old had extensive knowledge of drug production and was constantly improving his methods of manufacturing amphetamine.
He used an innovative, little known and difficult-to-detect method, the agency added.
