He made the comment when asked about Russian-Belarusian military drills that are due to take place in Belarus on 14-20 September.

"We are closely watching what is happening across our eastern border," Dworczyk said.

He was speaking to public Polish Radio 24 ahead of an upcoming visit to Warsaw by the NATO chief.

The Zapad'17 maneuvers are expected to be a key topic for discussion when the Western military alliance's Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg visits Poland on Thursday.

While in Warsaw, NATO’s Stoltenberg is due to meet with officials including President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Beata Szydło.

In a previous comment, Dworczyk said there are concerns about whether all of Russia’s military equipment will be withdrawn from Belarus after the seven-day exercises end on 20 September.

According to official data, some 12,700 troops, including 3,000 from Russia, will take part in the drills. (str)
