Poland’s ruling party consolidates lead

Poland’s ruling conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party is backed by 37.7 percent of voters who say they would take part in parliamentary elections, according to the latest survey by pollster IBRiS.

Support for the party rose by 4.3 percentage points from a month earlier.
Meanwhile, the opposition Civic Platform (PO) party, which was ousted from power in 2015 parliamentary elections, is trailing behind, on 19.9 percent support, 2.9 percentage points down from August.
The Nowoczesna (Modern) party is third on 8.7 percent, the anti-establishment Kukiz’15 grouping is fourth on 8 percent, and the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), which is outside parliament, is fifth, backed by 6 percent, the poll found.
The rural-based Polish People’s Party (PSL) would also make it into the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, on 5 percent.
Another grouping, left-wing Razem (Together), would clear the 5 percent support threshold needed to get into the lower house, with backing up by 3.2 percentage points. (aba/pk)
