The man was unaccounted for after his shift ended on Saturday.

The miner had been working on the morning shift at the G25 unit, Jolanta Piątek, spokesperson for KGHM Polska Miedź S.A, told the PAP news agency. “He did not come up to the surface after work,” Piątek said.

“A search party was despatched at 1 p.m. – so far their efforts have been unsuccessful.”

The spokesperson would not furnish any details about the missing miner. “While the search is underway, that is all the information I can give,” Piątek added. (aba/pk)
