Polish president, PM congratulate football players

Poland’s president and prime minister have both congratulated the national football squad on winning their final qualifier against Montenegro and securing a place in next year’s World Cup in Russia.

President Andrzej Duda watched the match live at Warsaw’s National Stadium. He later praised the players and visited them in the locker room after the game.

“I congratulate the whole team: Coach Nawałka, Mr. Lewandowski and all the players,” he said on private television station Polsat. “We are very proud of you guys; you've brought us so much joy.”

Prime Minister Beata Szydło wrote on Twitter: “Bravo, bravo, bravo. Big congratulations.”

A host of other politicians, among them Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz and Sports Minister Witold Bańka, also said they were proud of Sunday's result. (gs/pk)
