At least 40 dead in crashes as Poles flocked to cemeteries

At least 40 people have died in more than 450 crashes between Friday and Wednesday evening, Polish police said as they summed up their annual All Saints Day road safety campaign.

More than 500 were injured as traffic rose while Poles traditionally flocked to cemeteries to remember their deceased relatives on 1 November.

There were 31 crashes on Wednesday, in which two people died and 44 were injured.

Last year, 39 people died and 441 were injured in 425 crashes. (vb/pk)
