Polish police, fire dep't try out new tech

Police in Poland have started trialling body cameras and the fire department is testing the use of a drone in burning buildings, according to the interior ministry.

According to police spokesman Mariusz Ciarek, police body cameras will record video, sound and the location of the officer wearing such equipment, increasing security.

It is being tested by police in the Polish capital, in the country's northeastern Podlaskie region and in Lower Silesia, in the southwest.

Meanwhile, firefighter are testing a drone which would be able to reach places that are inaccessible to humans, such as vents and shafts.

The interior ministry and others on Wednesday summed up two years since the government took office.

Interior Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said that nearly 1,000 police cars, 139 fire engines, and 130 border guard vehicles were added to the state's fleets as the ministry aims to modernise services. (vb/pk)
