Polish ruling party retains strong lead in new poll

Poland’s ruling conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party is backed by 42.8 percent of voters, according to a new survey by pollster Estymator.

The opposition Civic Platform (PO) party is way behind, on 23.6 percent, the survey found.
The anti-establishment Kukiz’15 group is third on 9.8 percent, and the rural-based Polish People’s Party (PSL) is fourth on 6.4 percent, according to the poll, which was published by the Do Rzeczy.pl website.
The Nowoczesna (Modern) party, which on Saturday chose a new leader, would also make it into the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, on 6 percent, followed by the left-wing Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) with 5.3 percent. This last party is now outside parliament.
The poll found no other parties would clear the 5 percent support threshold needed to enter parliament.
The survey was conducted on November 23-24 on a representative sample of 1,077 adult respondents. (gs/pk)
