The patient, from the south-western city of Wrocław, was left with a kidney that has been affected by cancer.
The surgeon who made the error in 2015 has been fired, officials said. He is to go on trial in March, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
The hospital where the operation was carried out has paid the 57-year-old patient PLN 150,000 in compensation.
But Patients’ Rights Ombudsman Bartłomiej Chmielowiec says that amount is too little.
