President Lech Kaczyński and 95 others died in the crash. The victims included First Lady Maria Kaczyńska and dozens of senior Polish government officials and military commanders.

A roll call of honour in front of the presidential palace in the Polish capital was held on Tuesday at 8:41 am, the exact time of the disaster on April 10, 2010.

The event was attended by officials including Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the head of the governing Law and Justice (PiS) party, Jarosław Kaczyński.

A series of other commemorations were held around the country.

President Andrzej Duda on Tuesday morning paid tribute to the late presidential couple in the crypt at Wawel Cathedral in the southern city of Kraków where they are laid to rest.

Marta Kaczyńska, the daughter of Lech Kaczyński and Maria Kaczyńska, also took part in the tribute together with her daughters.

A raft of other events were planned in the country and abroad later in the day.
