Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski was officially appointed Poland's agriculture minister on Wednesday after his predecessor quit earlier this week.

The member of Poland's ruling conservative Law and Justice party hitherto served on a parliamentary committee for agriculture.

Ardanowski told public broadcaster Polish Radio's IAR news agency on Tuesday that he wanted to get to work immediately.

"There will be a lot of work, but I'm used to that," Ardanowski told IAR.

"I think I understand ... the main problems facing Polish agriculture," he added.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that one of the new agriculture minister's tasks would be easing the effects of drought on farmers.

Ardanowski will take over from Krzysztof Jurgiel who tendered his resignation on Monday.

Jurgiel, who became Poland’s agriculture minister in November 2015 after PiS came to power in a landslide election win, resigned "for personal reasons," IAR reported. (vb/pk)
