One person was reported dead and 10 others injured after fierce winds swept through Poland overnight from Thursday to Friday.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Twitter: "Our thoughts are with all victims."

Some 331,000 customers were left without electricity at one point after winds uprooted trees and disrupted power supplies in some parts of the country, including its central Mazovia region, according to reports.

The deputy mayor of Wołomin, some 20 km east of Warsaw, died after a tree branch fell on him, the PAP news agency reported.
