Issues on the agenda for talks between the two leaders include NATO troop presence in the region, the future of the European Union and collaboration as part of the Three Seas initiative, PAP said.

The Three Seas initiative aims to boost cooperation among countries between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas.

Polish presidential aide Krzysztof Szczerski told PAP: “We want the Three Seas initiative to take root and bring about tangible results such as the expansion of infrastructure connecting all the countries taking part in the initiative.”

Duda is expected to be honoured with “Latvia’s highest state distinction for his contribution to the country’s security and defence,” Szczerski said.

The Polish president is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis and pay a visit to the village of Adazi, where a Polish military contingent is stationed.

The presidential visit winds up with a meeting with Poles living in the city of Daugavpils, where the Polish community comprises 15 percent of the overall population.
