Polish president praises prison guards

The Polish president on Friday praised the nation’s prison guards, saying they helped maintain security in the country.

Speaking at a ceremony in Warsaw, Andrzej Duda said that even though a prison guard’s work was done “away from the spotlight," it benefited society as a whole.
"Every citizen wants to live in a safe country, and all citizens want their children to be safe," Duda said, as quoted by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
He added that prison guards also “watch out for the safety of those who have committed crimes and been sentenced to confinement by the justice administration system.”
Prison staff must meet high professional, ethical and moral standards, the president noted as he appointed new Prison Service officers at a central square in the Polish capital.
