A pilot system is being tested on booths along the A1 motorway, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The motorway was taken by 100,000 vehicles a day during peak weekends last year as Poles headed off for their summer holidays on the northern Baltic coast, according to IAR.

The Amber Go system uses cameras to read vehicle licence plates and compare them with a list of numbers registered by users of the autopay transport application, IAR reported.

Queues formed by drivers waiting to pay tolls manually on the A1 motorway are a frequent cause of irritation for Polish motorists.
